Finding popular solutions to climate change
Climate policies keep failing, not because of bad science, but because of missing public support. Referendums get defeated. Voters push back. Governments stall.
To tackle this problem, we have conducted one of the largest global surveys of its kind, spanning 75 societies across six continents to find out what the public will actually accept, and why. What makes people support or oppose a carbon tax? A meat levy? A green subsidy? And how do beliefs about costs, fairness, and climate impact shape those opinions?
We have surveyed public opinion across a broad range of climate policies and gathered empirically grounded knowledge about what makes or breaks public approval. A better understanding of these drivers is crucial, both for designing more effective policies and for communicating them to the public.
